A pair of chairs

I love my medallion table, but it needed some chairs to match!  After some work, I now have two sweet chairs to match my table!

They used to be so sad:

I bought them at ReStore for $12 each (originally $15 each, but I had a 20% coupon from their website).

I followed the usual routine…roughly hand-sanded the chairs, primed, and painted them the same color as the chest I just finished, and the bottom of my medallion table.

Then I took the fabric off of the chairs, and recovered them with a thicker brown fabric from JoAnns.  If you want to see more details of how I recover chairs, see this post.

Now’s where the fun came in.  I have been wanting to try a freezer paper stencil for a while now.  I followed this tutorial from Domestically Speaking.  I took the design from the same template that I used for the medallion on my table.

I ironed the shiny side of the freezer paper onto the fabric

And then I painted on some acrylic paint on the fabric:

Then I stapled the material onto the seat, let the paint dry…and took them for a photo shoot in my yard :)  That’s normal, right?!  ;)

Now it matches perfectly with my medallion table!!

Have you ever tried freezer stencils before?  This definitely won’t be my last time!

Cool idea! I've used freezer paper to make stencils for Tshirts but didn't think to do it for chairs. I'd love it if you'd stop by my blog, I'm having a giveaway for a Dremel Trio!

And Woooah- You switched to WordPress?! When and why did you decide to make the switch?! I am STILL debating if I want to attempt it. Who did it for you? I have heard horror stories about the switch so how was it for you?

    • Hey Allison!!

YES I switched!! It’s a little crazy…I’ve been working on it all summer, trying to do it on my own, but I finally caved and got “professional” help! I just kept reading article after article about how WP is more professional…and if I wanted to grow my blog, I should really switch…I caved to peer pressure haha!! But honestly – I miss Blogger!! I think I’m just going to have to get used to this!

With help, the switch hasn’t been too bad. I know that once I started the school year (next week) I would never have time for doing all of this, so I decided to do it now instead of next summer! :)

    • Hi Allison & Christina – I just read your comments about switching to WP and thought I’d chime in a bit (hope you don’t mind…and maybe it helps). Six years ago I started a Blogger blog and kept it going for about 2 years. This past January I started back up and went with WordPress…only because a couple people I knew had a WP account so I guess I just went along with them! About two weeks ago I switched over from wordpress.com to wordpress.org (where you are self hosted). I went with Host Gator for my host and so far am really liking them! They switched everything over for me for free!!! plus they have a live chat 24/7….which I use literally 10 times a day! (they probably hate me!) There I ask them questions regarding EVERYTHING…because I am like a fish out of water trying to figure out how to configure things, etc. I am trying to figure out as much as I can without hiring a professional to make everything look like what I really want it to (only because I cannot afford to pay someone $500+ to arrange stuff! – so I’ll just go gray in the process! hair dye will be cheaper!) I am still trying to figure out the basics but am so glad that the live chat is available! It is a huge relief! —however, the horror stories you’ve heard about WP…I have never had good luck with their support. You have to email them and IF they reply their answers only lead you to links that still make no sense! –Well that’s enough of my blabbing.

Christina – what theme do you use? plugins? Your site looks great! I’m jealous!!! Any tips on where to go to learn the basics?? Thanks so much!! p.s. I love the table and chairs!!

      • THANK YOU so much for the input…I really appreciate it!! Mine’s WordPress.org too…I am hosted through BlueHost. I actually did end up asking for help…but I shopped around so I only ended up paying $40. I am using the “Brunelleschi” template…which is verrrry simple. I’m going for simple…clean…and easily navigatable – hope it’s going that way!! It’s still a work in progress…but I like how it is so far :) Just trying to figure out my followers!!!!
