I am so excited that this project is finally done! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with the empty space above our bed, and it’s remained empty for almost a year now. We finally filled it up – with EMPTY frames!
My hubby was skeptical when I first told him that we weren’t going to fill frames with anything, but he’s learned to trust me by now. He loves the finished result!
Here’s how my frames started:
I found all of them between three different thrift stores. I took all of the pictures and glass out of the frames and put it all in the trash. Then I took them all outside and primed them with spray primer (I use Krylon):
Then I spray-painted them with Krylon’s semi-gloss white spray paint:
I shared the above pictures on my Instagram account the other day – come follow me! My username is christinasadventures
I love the look of these frames when they’re pure white, but when I glazed them, the details popped out so much more! See what I mean?
If you want to great glazing tutorial, I learned from Brooke at All Things Thrifty.
Next, I traced the outline of each frame onto a piece of paper. Then I taped them to the wall and arranged them the way I wanted. We didn’t worry about leveling them or making it perfect, but we wanted to get a feel of what it would look like.
Once we got it the way we wanted it, we marked and nailed directly onto the papers, and the just ripped the paper away. See my sweet hubby who helps me with my projects?!
Buckley didn’t help too much during the process…
Finally, after way too many months of being bare – we finally have something on top of our bed!
We just love the details in these pieces – they have so much character!
Tell me your thoughts! Do you think I’m crazy for hanging EMPTY frames?!
