I have to confess something to you. My bathroom has been a *complete* mess since I fell in love with selling Mary Kay products. I’m having so much fun trying on new shades of eye shadows, testing out different techniques, and practicing doing make-up on other girls … that my bathroom became a total disaster. I’m absolutely embarrassed to show you this picture, but when I walked in the bathroom after a night of trying different techniques, and I saw THIS:
I KNEW I needed to find a different system to organize my new “toys”!
I had been thinking about doing a magnetic board like this for months now, and I thought it would be the perfect solution for my make-up mess. BUT my hubby did not like the idea of my make-up being framed and organized on the wall to the right of our sink. He thought that would look weird and cluttered, so I let it go. But I kept brainstorming how I could use that idea, so I didn’t have to shove all of my new toys in a bag in the bathroom.
I realized I could still make the magnetic make-up board – but it DIDN’T have to be displayed for everyone to see! I had space right on the inside of my cabinet to the left of my sink!
By the way…if you are noticing my cute decorations in the back of these photos, come check out how I took this bathroom from uggggly to cute for just $22!
SO – I went to Lowe’s and bought some sheet metal for less than $10. I didn’t have to get it cut – this was the perfect size! I sprayed it down with spray adhesive, and covered it with some remnant fabric I bought a while ago.
Once that had dried, I flipped it over, cut the excess material, and duct-taped the fabric to the back of the metal:
(and yes – I was too lazy to take it off of my lap for the picture, so those are my feet in my new $5 sandals)
Next, I had to get the magnets on my make-up. I used some super-strong glue and magnets from Lowe’s, and laid them all out to dry (on my most favorite furniture re-do ever):
I also included 2 cups, which were actually used in my classroom in previous years, originally bought from Wal*Mart.
While they were drying, I put Command picture-hanging strips on the door, and then adhered the metal to the strips:
Once the magnets dried, I stuck the make-up on, and stepped back to admire my new organization!
It’s SO pretty! I also love that I have room to get much more make-up now too
YOU can easily make this so you can maximize your storage space! It works with the kind of cabinet I have, but it could easily work with thousands of other cabinet styles as well!
Just so we can allll admire how much better it looks, I will bring back the dreaded “before” just so I can show off the pretty “after”:
PS: If you’re at all interested in buying items from Mary Kay, OR interested in the awesome business I’ve started with selling these products, PLEASE send me an e-mail or leave a comment letting me know! It’s an incredible company and I’m honestly having a lot of FUN working with other women to enrich women’s lives!

I did something similar except for my most worn necklaces and earrings. I used self stick plastic hooks for my necklaces and for the earrings I used 3/8 ” neodymium magnets which can be bought online inexpensively and are amazingly strong.
